Dr. Kate Harnish returns to The Writing Center as Senior Tutor

The Writing Center welcomes Dr. Kate Harnish back to our team as a senior tutor!

Dr. Harnish earned her BA in psychology and art from Goshen College, her MA in art history from Indiana University, and her PhD in art history from Washington University in St. Louis.  During her time as a graduate student at WUSTL, she served as a graduate fellow in our writing center for two years, paving the way for an important and close partnership between our center and the Department of Art History and Archaeology.

In addition to her one-on-one work with undergraduate and graduate students, as a part of The Writing Center Dr. Harnish developed and oversaw the pilot for our e-tutoring service, which continues to be available to University College students.

Her teaching experience includes art history and writing courses (for the College Prep Program) and has been recognized by the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

More recently, Dr. Harnish worked at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation where she supported the writing and editing of a peer-reviewed book, wrote grants and scripts for educational videos, and researched best practices for writing about art for the general public.

Dr. Harnish’s return to The Writing Center brings her back to what she enjoyed most about working with undergraduate and graduate writers: “I love getting to know the writers and figuring out how to help them find their own way forward.  Each writer, each project, each session is different.  This means I have to be creative and improvisational, and I find that really exhilarating.”

We are excited to be working with Kate again, and we know you will enjoy sharing your work with her.
