Our vibrant community includes professional tutors, graduate fellows, and undergraduate peer tutors. This mix of perspectives and experiences makes for a wonderful place to work. See below for some opportunities to join The Writing Center and work alongside an incredible group of people.

Undergraduate Peer Tutors

Undergraduate peer tutors provide invaluable support to our undergraduate students while also developing highly sought-after mentoring and communication skills.  Coming from a wide variety of academic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds, our peer tutors represent the diversity of the WashU student body, and students frequently provide feedback indicating the importance of being able to work with peers with similar backgrounds and experiences as their own.

Graduate Fellows

Since 2015, The Writing Center has offered graduate fellowships designed to contribute to fellows’ professional development while also supporting their dissertation efforts.  The opportunity is open to all doctoral students at or near the dissertation stage.  Fellows receive training and experience in the pedagogy of one-on-one writing instruction, learn about effective writing workshop design and execution, and gain insight into higher education administration as a possible career path.  They also learn how to translate their Writing Center training and experience into various classroom settings and situations.  To date, fellows have represented more than 15 departments, and we continue to seek candidates from across all divisions.

Senior Tutors (Professional Staff)

Our professional staff are the backbone of what we offer the WashU community, representing years of experience and insight as writers, instructors, and tutors. Because our work touches nearly every part of the university and every stage of an undergraduate or graduate student’s academic career, we are fortunate to have senior tutors who take on additional roles serving on committees and special projects, teaching courses in various departments, and advising students as academic advisors or progress counselors.  Available senior tutor positions are posted to WashU’s jobs website.
