What brought you to The Writing Center?

I first came into The Writing Center because of a professor’s recommendation to utilize the center as a resource for a paper we were writing. When I came in for my first session, I was having trouble developing multiple arguments for my paper. However, in that first session, I was able to talk through my ideas and leave in a far better position than when I had come in. Receiving a fresh set of eyes from a peer tutor and having the safe space to talk through ideas was so helpful that I kept coming back.

What do you like about working with writers in The Writing Center?

What I love most about working with writers in The Writing Center is that it is a learning experience for both parties. Not only do students leave with having made progress in each session but, I love reading about topics in different areas of studies and learning a ton of new information.

What challenges you most about writing?

For me, the most challenging part of writing is getting myself to sit and actually began the writing process, which I think is pretty common. I have learned that sitting down and getting something on the paper, even if it is absolute nonsense, is far more beneficial than when I procrastinate till the last minute.

What advice do you have for writers?

If I was to give just one piece of advice to writers, it would be to simply just write. You may not always love your starting point and you more than likely will have to go through multiple drafts; however, every step of the writing process is useful in producing the best possible version of your writing. With more experience, you will develop a style and process of writing that works best for you. So, just keep writing and have fun with it.
