Analysis Workshop: College Writing

College Writing Program students are invited to join Writing Center senior tutor Dr. Ruth Berson as she leads a 50-minute step-by-step analysis of Simon and Garfunkel’s song “Richard Cory.” Attendees will begin by watching the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNmfhCbpbJU), then, with the lyrics on hand, apply “The Method” of analysis, looking specifically for repetition, strands, binaries and anomalies. Through discussion, attendees will find connections between and among these parts, and gradually identify evidence that could be used to support one or more interpretations of the song.
