What brought you to The Writing Center?
I first had an appointment at The Writing Center my freshman year, and I was enthralled by all the guidance and support The Writing Center has to offer to WashU students. I was an English, History, and Spanish tutor in high school, so I wanted to continue helping my peers in a variety of different subjects in college as well. Becoming a peer tutor at The Writing Center was the perfect place for that!
What do you like most about working with writers at The Writing Center?
One of my favorite aspects of working as a peer tutor is reading the works of students who come from all different backgrounds and have a variety of different interests and passions. Being able to read and help other students with their written work outside of my own major and interests is such a privilege, and this is such a unique characteristic of the Writing Center. I learn so much during every tutoring session.
What do you find most challenging about writing?
For me, knowing when to stop editing my work is the most difficult part of writing. The Writing Center offers that supportive second opinion that has helped me become more confident in my work.
What advice do you have for writers?
Please don’t be afraid to ask for help! Writing is such a personal experience, which comes with much deliberation and intention in how you want to showcase what you have learned. Being honest and clear about what your expectations are for a tutoring session will result in the most fruitful and rewarding session.
